Kindergarten News
May 2015
Dear Parents/Guardians,
It’s hard to believe but we are now heading into the home stretch of the school year. Between now and the end of June we will be doing lots of assessments and interventions to support your child in meeting the end of year outcomes. This will make attendance crucial for the next two months.
If your child is unable to attend school on the last day, please make arrangements to have his/her report card picked up OR send a self-addressed , stamped envelope so that we can mail his/her report card to you. We are not permitted to hand out report cards earlier than the last day of school.
There will be no school for Kindergarten students only on Friday, June 5th as we will be spending time with next years Kindergarten students.
Sincerely,
K Teachers
Literacy
During the month of May… · We will be doing lots of writing activities. We are continuing to work on complete sentences, using spaces between words, and experimenting with punctuation.
· Please continue reviewing sight words with your children. We will be asking each student to identify the list of sight words we have done this year.
· We have been working on doing a retell of a story using beginning, middle and end language.
Math
In addition to continuing with previous outcomes, in May:
-We will be studying capacity. Students will need to know when one container holds more, less or about the same as another container.
-We will be working on making groups that have the same, more or
fewer than another group.
-We will be working on using the words more, fewer or the same to tell you about 2 groups.
YYW(You and Your World)
· We will be completing a unit on healthy eating. We will also be working on a unit on personal safety.
